    What is 9XC Tool Steel?

    9XC (GOST 9ХС) is a low-alloy, chromium–silicon cold-work tool steel designed for high hardness, edge stability, and wear resistance. Typical uses include threading tools, cutters, reamers, taps, dies, gauges, and other precision tools operating at low to moderate cutting speeds.

    Heat Treatment Guidance (Shop Reference)

    • Anneal: ~740–760 °C; slow cool for ≤241 HB
    • Hardening (typical): 800–830 °C austenitize; oil/air quench
    • Tempering: 150–250 °C (choose per hardness vs. toughness target)
    • Machining: best in annealed state with rigid setups & coolant only
